How far England can reach?
The English team for the World Cup 2011 is gifted with brilliant players like Jonathan Trott, Andrew Strauss, Jimmy Anderson, Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood. Of course, the team can deliver the goods but, to what extent? The question is, will the English team reach the finals or will the English people watch the finals played by two other teams?
The English team is mainly lacking in batting depth. Whether it is chasing or building up runs, they are not able to stretch beyond a limit. Their bowling can certainly shake the rival team but, one cannot call them as great bowlers.
Though the team was successful in the 2010 World Twenty 20, they had a great defeat from Australia in then recent ODI series.
A win in the World Cup can make the team confident of their brilliance in ODI also which they are yet to establish. Also they have to prove their ability to play in slow pitches and also to tackle spin bowling.
Skipper Andrew Strauss and Coach Andy Flower are confidant that their team will meet the challenge and win. Strauss, while saying that they are here to win revealed their new strategy to play adventurous cricket.
Pietersen is a powerful batsman as well as a match-winner. It was a wise decision to include him in the team for World Cup.
Presence of former Captain Paul Collingwood is also a boon for the team. He is an all rounder of proven brilliance and well experienced in ODI. The other two bowlers Graeme Swann and Jimmy Anderson are also capable of startling the opposing team.
The English team had played the finals of World Cup three times but, had not won so far. With full confidence and lot of expectations, Strauss and his team had arrived. Now, they are busy preparing their strategy to achieve their goal.
